David Fincher may yet make The Girl Who Played With Fire...
Sony had high hopes for its planned English language take on the Millennium trilogy of novels. It hired David Fincher to direct The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which went on to make solid returns at the box office. Yet seemingly not enough to trigger the next film, The Girl Who Played With Fire.
On the promotional trail for his new film, Gone Girl, Fincher has admitted though that there's still a chance the second film will happy. Over at Afton Bladet, via Film Divider, he said that "I think because [Sony] already spent millions of dollars on the rights and the script, it will result in something. The script that we have now [has] huge potential... it is extremely different from the book".
It sounds like there may yet be life in the project yet. However, Fincher's hardly short of projects to tackle, so whether this one bubbles to the top of his development list remains to be seen...
