Paramount Pictures announces a new date and title for Paranormal Activity 5, as well as a new creative team and direction.
Last year when Paramount Pictures delayed Paranormal Activity 5 from its late-October release date, we were left as chagrined as Hollywood when Halloween rolled out with relatively few new horror movies, as all had made room for the found footage behemoth.
Tinsletown seems more at ease now with the lack of paranormalgoodness in 2014, and for good reason, as Paramount Pictures has confirmed the widely known fact that Paranormal Activity 5 was not going to make its October 24th release date this year. And indeed it hasn’t, as Paramount confirms that the fifth Paranormal Activity movie will be opening on March 13, 2015.
Paramount further revealed that this one is getting an all-new creative team from the original four films as Gregory Plotkin, the editor of Paranormal Activity 2, 3, and 4 will be making his directorial debut on the new entry. Further, Jason Pagan and Andrew Stark, who scripted next year’s Project Almanac, will also be writing the screenplay to what Paramount has dubbed Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension.
This curious title change suggests it might be a reboot of sorts, after all, as with Paranormal Activity 3 (and the original colonel of an idea going back to the first film), The Ghost Dimension will star two daughters and an “all new family” that learns what really goes bump in the night.
So, have we seen the last of Katie and her demon spawn? And what ever happened to Alex from the last one? Also, didn’t the original Paranormal Activity make a big stink about how they were dealing with something much worse than ghosts? I suppose those are all questions that will be answered in March!
