After films such as Edge Of Tomorrow and Transcendence underperformed, Warner Bros is making cuts to its workforce...

This isn't good news. It's been revealed that Warner Bros is planning as many as 1,000 job cuts across all levels of the studio. Film and TV are to be the least affected, given the studio's commitments to production, but the likes of home entertainment, marketing and administration departments are expected to bear the brunt.

The news comes after a run of disappointments for the studio at the box office. Whilst The LEGO Movie hit big, and Godzilladid well, Warner Bros were part investors and beneficiaries. It was more exposed on big budget underperformers, such as Edge Of Tomorrow, Transcendence, and Winter's Tale. It also took a hit for delaying Jupiter's Ascending from its original summer slot to February next year. Interestingly, there's not a sequel amongst them. Not for nothing is Warner Bros stuffing its upcoming slate with follow-ups and comic book movies.

Warner Bros held off a bid from Rupert Murdoch earlier in the year, and this latest round of cost cutting will take the studio's workforce down to 10%. It's tough times, and we sincerely hope that everyone who loses their job lands on their feet.
