Godzilla 2 recruits writer who’s very familiar with the material.
Word came last night via Deadline that Legendary Pictures has signed Max Borenstein to pen the script for the sequel to Godzilla. If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Borenstein also wrote the first film as well. While a few different people ran Godzillathrough their screenwriting software -- including one-time Walking Deadshowrunner Frank Darabont -- it was Borenstein whose version made up most of the final film.
Borenstein also wrote Skull Islandfor Legendary, which just landed its star and director, and has also penned the pilot for Steven Spielberg’s proposed Minority Report TV series. There’s no indication yet of whether Borenstein will include any other Toho Studios monsters in Godzilla 2 (as we discussed here), but he has a while to work it out: the Gareth Edwards-directed movie doesn’t open until June 2018.
