If WIlliam Shatner is coming back for Star Trek 3/Star Trek 13, then it's the first he's heard of it...
Yesterday, a story did the rounds that both William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy were being lined up for roles in the next Star Trek film (currently entitled Star Trek 3or Star Trek 13 depending on your personal preference). There's some sense to this: the new Star Trek big screen adventure will mark the 50th anniversary of the series, and it's been established already that it's possible to sneak at least one of those two into modern Trekmovies. Heck, if there's an art gallery in the new film, then Tom Baker may be available to curate, too.
Anyway. The next Trekfilm is being co-written and directed by Roberto Orci, and he's already gone onto the forums at the excellent TrekMovie to note that he's in a no win whether he denies or admits the story. He posted "not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in theater. Until then, everything is a rumor."
William Shatner, however, has gone one stage further. He's taken to his Twitter account to basically say that if there's any truth to all of this, then it's news to him. Here's his Tweet....
Let's talk ST. I don't know anything about the current gossip. Nobody has contacted me. Right now it's just rhetoric to cause hype.

Now: all of this closes no doors, and we're in the same position that we were in before the story broke. Nobody really is any of the wiser. But at least we know everyone's position as it stands.
The next Star Trekfilm lands in 2016.
