Neo is ready to return to the franchise that made him an action hero.
With his violent new thriller John Wick getting some great advance buzz down at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Keanu Reeves has revealed to Nerdist that he’s ready to return to the franchise that put him firmly on the map as an action hero (not to mention that it also made a star out of Sandra Bullock).
“Sure,” was the answer that The One gave when asked if he would consider doing Speed 3 sometime in the future. Reeves, of course, sat out the waterbound Speed 2: Cruise Control (much to his everlasting relief, we’re sure) but even though he was dismissing the notion of doing a third movie as late as last year, he’s apparently come around to the idea just as the original movie marks its 20th anniversary.
Now just because Reeves said he’d do it, that doesn’t mean it’s happening, and the truth of the matter is that the series has been dead in the water ever since Speed 2 made like the Titanic at the box office. But if sequel-hungry studio execs get hold of this news, we have to imagine they’ll get a script over to Keanu’s place at speeds far exceeding 50mph. For now, however, let’s put the brakes on any wild speculation about this one.
