After Fredrik Bond quit last week, a new director has been found for London Has Fallen, starring Gerard Butler...
Over the weekend, director Antoine Fuqua scored himself a second box office hit in a row, as The Equalizer grossed $35m in the US alone. That's not bad at all for an R-rated movie, and Fuqua's previous film, Olympus Has Fallen, also proved a sizeable hit. So much so in fact that the sequel, London Has Fallen, is edging closer to shooting.
Fuqua's not directing it however - his next project is The Magnificent Seven, starring Denzel Washington, that starts shooting next week. Fuqua told us he wasn't keen on the direction London Has Fallen was taking, hence going with other projects. The man who was taking his place, Fredrik Bond, then also left the project last week.
With production imminent, and Gerard Butler leading the returning cast, Millennium Films needed a director quickly. And now it looks like it's found one.
The new helmer of London Has Fallen is set to be Swedish director Babak Najafi. Najafi has helmed a couple of episodes of Banshee, and his last feature was 2012's Easy Money II: Hard To Kill. He's hardly a high profile choice, but that doesn't by any measure mean he's a bad one.
London Has Fallen may yet sneak into cinemas in 2015 (although early 2016 is our guess). More news as we get it.
