Kevin Smith reveals himself that Clerks 3 is now being financed thanks to the positive reactions toward this month's Tusk.
Despite news from this past summer that Clerks 3 had hit a stumbling block when The Weinstein Company passed on financing the Viewaskew threequel, we all knew that it would only be a matter of time before Smith found a way back into the Quick Stop with Dante and Randal. Now, we have our confirmation from the man himself, who credits the positive reactions to Tusk for the turnaround.
While speaking on his latest installment of the Hollywood Babble-On Podcast, Smith revealed that he was moving forward on Clerks 3 in addition to his burgeoning new rubber monster trilogy about threats from the Great White North (Canada), which began with Tusk.
During the podcast, Smith said, “Tusk was absolutely the bridge to Clerks 3. Because of Tusk, I got my financing for Clerks 3. A year and change ago I was desperately trying to get Clerks 3 made for the 20th anniversary…I must have reeked of [desperation] because I couldn’t fucking find money and shit. But it was Tusk, with people going, ‘Holy fuck, what else do you have?’ [and] I’m like, ‘Thank you, I failed into Clerks 3!”
The news will be long welcomed by Smith fans who first heard about the 20th anniversary plan at last year’s New York Comic-Con. Rosario Dawson toldDen of Geek earlier this year that she was definitely going to be in Clerks 3, but that she hadn’t seen a script yet.
Something tells us that she is about to get one as we inch ever closer to the triumphant return of Jay and Silent Bob. Smoochy boochies.
