Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 has a script, but not a director, as Tommy Wirkola drops out of helming the sequel...
A surprise hit when it was finally released in 2013, Tommy Wirkola's Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, grossed $226m worldwide off a budget less than a quarter of that. Unsurprisingly, Paramount Pictures wanted a sequel.
Writer-director Tommy Wirkola had been set to return for the new film too, and has written the screenplay for Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2. However, he's also dropped out of directing it.
Chatting to Fangoria, Wirkola said that "I have been lately attached to a few more things, it's just a matter of time and priorities." Whilst he's remaining involved inHansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2, he added that "I want to do something a bit different now and not just do sequels."
