Netflix is launching an animated series about King Kong, titled Kong - King of the Apes, in which the big guy battles giant robots.
King Kong is perhaps one of the most famous stories in all of pop culture. Told and retold as the timeless fable of adventure and the forbidden knowledge in nature that should not have been disturbed by “civilized” man, King Kong and Skull Island are synonymous with going to the movies.
Well, expect a different kind of apish monarchy coming to your television sets. Netflix has revealed that Kong – King of the Apes is coming to the digital content provider, and it’s not how you’re used to seeing him.
To be presented in one full “feature film” and then 12 subsequent half-hour episodes, Kong – King of the Apes will tell of a more techno-savvy big gorilla that must escape from Alcatraz Island’s “Natural History and Marine Preserve” after he is framed for wrecking havoc all over the place. In actuality, it is the work of an evil genius who framed the big guy, so that no one can disturb his plans for world domination involving giant dinosaur robots. Yes, you read that correctly.
Thus with the help of three kids who know the truth, King Kong will run from the authorities while doing battle with giant robots in order to save a human race that fears and doesn’t understand him.
Did I mention this is being executive produced by Avi Arad of the Spider-Man franchise? Now, it all makes sense.
The series is set to go bananas in 2016.
