Leonardo DiCaprio drops out of the Steve Jobs biopic, which is set to be helmed by Danny Boyle. Will Christian Bale step in?
Sony isn't having much fun trying to get its big screen take on Steve Jobs' life story to cinemas. Based on Walter Isaacson's extensive biography (which is well worth a read) Jobs, and with a script by Aaron Sorkin, the original plan was for David Fincher to come in and direct. That deal couldn't be made, however, although the latest director attached to the project is Danny Boyle.
It looked for a while as though Leonardo DiCaprio would be taking on the role of Jobs too, but he's currently in the midst of making a film called TheRevenant. The original thought was that he'd move on to Jobsonce he was done with that. However, The Hollywood Reporter has now broken the news that he's dropped out of the project altogether.
So it's back to the drawing board on casting. On the current wishlist are apparently Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon. Until Sony finds its big screen Steve Jobs, the project remains in some variant of limbo.
