Kristen Bell returns to her roots in the new trailer for The Lifeguard in the most horrifying Millennial way imaginable.
A New York professional who sees her career and love life crash in a moment’s notice, Leigh (Bell) decides to recede into the simplicity of high school life, away from the responsibilities that seemingly come with being a 20-something approaching 30. She moves back into her parents’ home in suburbia, reconnects with friends who never left and even reclaims her high school job as an apartment complex swimming pool lifeguard.
Yet, this retroactive backward spiral takes on dire consequences for herself and those she cares about when she begins an affair with a high school boy.
This looks to be a depressing, if interesting, look into how a generation floats adrift in our current culture. As Liz W. Garcia’s first feature (of Memphis Beat), this could be a quirky dramedy or a sobering reflection of the time. Either way, we are intrigued.
The Lifeguardwill be available on VOD and in select cities on July 30.
