Laika, the studio behind Coraline and The Boxtrolls, has signed on to do another three films with Focus Features.
If you were one of the millions who enjoyed Laika’s delightful new stop-motion film about Boxtrolls and the Ben Kingsley fiends who hunt them, then we have good news for you: Laika has a firm deal in place with Focus Features to produce three more animated confections with the studio.
Focus Features CEO Peter Schlessel and Travis Knight, the president and CEO of Laika, made the announcement Friday afternoon.
“I am very pleased to continue our relationship with our friends at Laika,” Schlessel said. “Travis and his company have elevated the art of animated films and we are proud to be part of their success.”
Mr. Knight was equally cordiall about the agreement. “Focus and Laika are kindred spirits,” he said in a press release. “Over eight years and three films, we’ve forged an incredible bond over a shared love for, and commitment to, bold, distinctive, and enduring stories. Peter and his superlative team have created a welcoming home for original voices and enriching, challenging filmmaking. They’re the bravest studio in the world. We look forward to many ongoing cinematic adventures with our Focus/Universal family. The best is yet to come.”
The Boxtrolls opened this past weekend to $17.3 million.
