SyFy brings the future into the present with a blast from the past in 12 Monkeys.
The science fiction series 12 Monkeyswill premieres on January 16 on Syfy. The original classic Terry Gilliam film, 12 Monkeys, turns 20 next years. The new series stars Aaron Stanford as James Cole, the time traveler played in the original movie by Bruce Willis. Amanda Schull will portray Cassandra Railly who was played by Madeleine Stowe in the original and Emily Hampshire is mental patient Jennifer Goines.
In honor of this announcement, Syfy and Universal Cable Productions will uncage 12 monkeys at New York Comic Con. All the monkeys will be infected with some kind of deadly plague that will decimate the planet by, oh, let’s say the year 2043. Producers are banking that someone will travel back in time to join Natalie Chaidez, Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett at a 12 Monkeyspanel on Saturday, October 11. Emily Hampshire will also explain why she’s no longer Brad Pitt.
12 Monkeysalso stars Kirk Acevedo as Ramse; Barbara Sukowa as Jones; and Noah Bean as Aaron Marker and Tom Noonan as a mysterious villain.
12 Monkeyswas inspired by Chris Marker's 1962 short film La Jetée about a guy sent from a post-apocalyptic future to find and stop the source of a deadly plague that will eventually wipe out the human race.
