Director Dean Parisot is still attached, and Keanu Reeves says that Bill & Ted 3 is still inching forwards...
It seems like it's no closer to arriving on screen, but Bill & Ted 3 is still very much happening. In a new interview over at Coming Soon to promote his upcoming movie John Wick, Keanu Reeves has given an update on the film, and the work of screenwriters Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson.
"Chris and Ed have been working really hard over a couple of years to get the draft in the right place," Reeves said, revealing that getting the screenplay to lock where it needs to be has been the prevailing issue. The challenge: "what is the reason to make this movie besides nostalgia or the love of these characters. Where can they be in their life that can be a story that is worth telling or has something in it and is funny?"
Admitting that the early draft of the film would have cost $150m to make ("I don't know if Bill & Tedcarry that much weight", notes Reeves), he added that "they've worked on the script and the budget, just trying to get the right script and then get the business side wrapped up, financiers and rights, all the show business stuff".
Director Dean Parisot (who helmed the excellent Galaxy Quest and the not-excellent Red 2) remains on board the movie. and Reeves reveals that in the film the two leads - which he and Alex Winter will be retuning to play - have "been weighed down by the burden of having to save the world by the song, and they just can't write it. They're losing their wives and their children, they're losing their families."
