Yet another film is lined up for a telly remake. This time it’s Ed Norton vehicle The Illusionist...
You can add another to the hefty list of films which are heading to the small screen – The Illusionist.
With Westworld, Minority Report, School Of Rock, Shooter, Big and many more already lined up by their respective networks, it seems there’s a trend being set here which will make the flurry of comic book adaptation’s we’re enjoying currently seem like a minor movement in comparison.
The Ed Norton-starring film will undergo a few changes before becoming a CW TV series, though. The setting, for one, will be altered from Vienna to New York.
In fact, it seems the story of Eisenheim The Illusionist is being completely rewritten – rather than a timid stage magician competing with a Crown Prince for the love of Jessica Biel, the series will focus ‘on a renowned illusionist who returns home from a decade in prison to find his wife married to the ruthless crime boss who framed him.’
We’re also told that, through ‘posing as an underling in the crime boss’ organization, the illusionist uses cunning magic to pull off elaborate heists, rising quickly through the organization in order to take down the boss from the inside and win back his one true love.’
This sounds like an adaptation of Neil Burger’s original film in the loosest possible sense, then. It could still make entertaining telly though.
