We've not got Pacific Rim 2 yet. But already, Guillermo del Toro appears to be plotting Pacific Rim 3...
Ah-ha! You wait for one sequel toPacific Rim to get the greenlight, and it might just be that two of them are coming along instead. It was recently confirmed that Guillermo del Toro would return to direct Pacific Rim 2, which is due to land in cinemas on April 7th 2017. Legendary is once again backing the film, only this time it'll be Universal, rather than Warner Bros, that releases it.
Guillermo del Toro has been chatting aboutPacific Rim 2 in a new interview with Collider, and it's there that he's revealed he's planning a Pacific Rim 3 as well.
"Some of your favourite characters will come back," he teased of Pacific Rim 2, "some others don't because we have decided that we're going to shoot ambiguously and say 'let's hope we have three movies' so more characters come in at the end of the second, hoping that it will ramp up on the third one."
Granted, just because Guillermo del Toro wants to make Pacific Rim 3, that doesn't mean that it's going to happen. But it certainly appears to be in the planning stages, and it's very much in his thinking.
