Back to the Future writer Bob Gale would like to reassure you that the trilogy will remain exactly that.
Recently, we went into some detail about why Back to the Future 4never happened. In the course of that, there was a quote from writer Bob Gale from 2010 which also made it sound like he and Robert Zemeckis have some veto power over any potential remake or reboot. Well, he's sticking to his guns.
Mr. Gale told Yahoothat yes, studios have been after him to give Back to the Future some kind of second life, whether it's via a reimagining or a new sequel. That's expected. The good news is that it ain't happening. “Let’s face it, we’ve seen a lot of sequels that are made years and years later and I don’t think I can name one that’s any good...I don't think you can recapture it."
Not only that, there won't be any George Lucas-ing of the franchise, either.
“We’re not going to do Director’s Cuts or make a 3D version or change the special effects. People love them the way they are, we think they’re really good. Let’s not mess with it.”
Even better, he says "We don't need the money...if we had serious debts it might be different."
In the meantime, you can look for the Back to the Future musical...eventually, but that's strictly for the stage and not the screen.
