We've got some Wonder Woman details, and some other bits and pieces about Robin, the villains, and more in Batman v. Superman.
With all of the noise surrounding Warner Bros. announcing their full superhero slate (including release dates for TWO Justice League movies, The Flash, Suicide Squad, and lots more), it's almost like Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is old hat. Almost. Not really, though, because lots of little details have been trickling out over the last week or so. On their own, they weren't much, but together, they should distract you for a bit.
Let's start with the Wonder Woman stuff, since it's by far the most substantial.
In Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman is a demigod. Not a lump of clay (although that would have been cool), and certainly not a descendent of some lost tribe of Kryptonians (you didn't really believe that nonsense, did you?). The info was revealed by Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justiceproducer Charles Roven, which you can see in this clip.
In short, Diana is the offspring of a fling between Zeus and Queen Hippolyta, mirroring her New 52 comics origin. So, it's kinda cool that the Greek Gods will exist in the DC Cinematic Universe. It's also a lot easier to explain than the "magical lump of clay" origin story, which would certainly be dismissed by folks who want to buy into the whole "superheroes are super serious frowny business" thing that Warner Bros. keeps hammering us with.
Also, it looks like the production is moving to the New Mexico desert, where they're building Themyscira/Paradise Island. It's a pretty impressive set, and cool to see that it won't just be green-screened. Check out the report here.
Now, here's where things get potentially more interesting, but less substantial, and potentially spoiler-y. Here's a picture of Ben Affleck as Batman so you have a chance to leave. Oh, and speaking of Ben Affleck's Batman, Charles Roven also spoke at some length about why they chose him for the role, and what his personality as Bruce Wayne and Batman will be like, as well as how different they are from previous portrayals. Click here for that, and then it's on to potential spoilers.
It would appear that in addition to Lex Luthor, there's another villain at work in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. It makes sense, as at some point, we're going to want to see Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman not fight each other and actually whup someone else's ass. Well, have you wondered why they might be fighting each other? Perhaps they're being manipulated? That's where Brainiac comes into play...
Brainiac is now said to be not only the background threat for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the main threat for Justice League Part One (Panic in the Sky, anyone?), since these two movies should lead right into each other. I've put the word out for more info. But with some recent set photos popping up that look an awful lot like incidental bits from the New 52 Superman reboot that showcased Brainiac early on, well...you can see where this is going.
Meanwhile, the Jena Malone talk won't stop. She showed up on set recently with red hair, which has led to some folks saying that she's playing the Carrie Kelly version of Robin in the film, although she insists she isn't involved. Then again, let's not forget that Jason Momoa literally spent the last year denying he was Aquaman, and we saw how all that turned out.
Considering the debt this movie supposedly owes to The Dark Knight Returns, seeing Carrie Kelly on screen would be pretty cool (and she was recently brought into "regular" DC Comics continuity in the pages of the Batman and Robin ongoing, which may be a coincidence), but this one seems suspect. UPDATE: she's in the movie...details here.
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25th, 2016.
