As Christopher Nolan's Interstellar premieres in Hollywood, the final running time and rating for the film is confirmed...
Finally arriving in cinemas on November 7th is easily one of the most eagerly awaited movies of the year: Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. The last time Nolan made a standalone science fiction movie entirely on his terms, we got Inception. The bar has not been set low down.
For this one, many of Interstellar's mysteries appear to have made it to release date firmly in tact, although we understand that Nolan is extremely controlling of what's allowed to be released about his films, and when. We raise that not as a problem, rather to point out that there are very few movie directors on the planet who have earned this combined level of clout. And Nolan has certainly earned it.
Now we hear that the rumours suggesting Interstellaris a long film are entirely correct. We're not quite at the three hour mark, but the movie runs it close.
According to the BBFC, the IMAX release of Interstellar will run to 167 minutes and 31 seconds. The 35mm release is 168 minutes and 49 seconds. You won't be losing a frame of the actual film between the two versions, incidentally.
The movie has been passed uncut, with a 12A certificate. And as you probably know, the film stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine and Ellen Burstyn.
