We won't be getting a standalone movie for Mark Ruffalo's Hulk before 2020, if at all, it seems. Kevin Feige explains why...
A few films were absent from Marvel's phase three announcement of movies yesterday. Whilst Black Widow, for instance, will be featuring in several movies, Scarlett Johansson's character isn't getting a film of her own. The Runaways feature isn't quite ready yet either, with Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige saying that the script is "in the vault," and television may be its eventual home (Drew Pearce, who penned Iron Man 3, wrote the original screenplay for that one).
And then there's Hulk. If there's one standalone movie that Marvel movie followers have been keen to see, it's an adventure for Mark Ruffalo's green ball of anger. Yet with Marvel revealing its hand through to 2019, it's clear he's not going to be getting one anytime soon.
So why? When questioned on why Hulk wasn't appearing, Kevin Feige said that "I wouldn’t say Hulk is absent from the timeline. I would say that Hulk is going to appear in many of those movies – particularly all of those Avengersmovies leading up to 2019. And Infinity War, Mark Ruffalo is on board for all those films, and we’re excited to bring him to all those films."
But a standalone adventure? "I’m going to say what I would have said about Black Panther last week, or Captain Marvel the week before that, or DoctorStrange the week before that, or Guardians Of The Galaxy two years ago, or Ant-Man ten years ago: we’ll see," Feige said. "We’d love to do it, we’d love to find a place to put it, but right now Hulk will be appearing with his friends in the other films."
We're taking that as a no, then. At least for five years. If anything changes, we'll let you know, of course...
