The new Skyline film, Beyond Skyline, has signed up the stars of The Raid...

Made for a modest $20m or so, 2010's Skyline ended up looking more impressive that the far more expensive Battle: L.A. in that year's face off between two alien invasion movies. A solid hit, there had been talk of a sequel to Skyline for some time, but as it turns out, we're getting a spin-off instead.

Entitled Beyond Skyline, the new film is to be written and directed by Liam O'Donnell. Colin and Greg Strause, the special effects wizards who helmed the first movie, are on board to produce.

And Beyond Skyline has now made some interesting casting signings. Namely, Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian, the two stars of The Raid. Furthermore, the pair will not only star in the movie, but they will also be choreographing the fights in it as well.

As Greg Strause told Variety, "we're showcasing a new kind of alien combat, so who better to collaborate with then the most innovative fight team in the world?"

They'll be joined by Frank Grillo, who turned in great performances in such films as The Grey and Warrior, and showed off his physical skills in CaptainAmerica: The Winter Soldier, Homefront (in which he wrestled Jason Statham), and as the lead in this year's The Purge: AnarchyGrillo will, according to Variety, "play a detective who fights to free his son from a terrifying alien warship", thus giving him plenty of opportunities to show off his backside-kicking prowess.

Production on Beyond Skyline will start next month in Indonesia. We'd expect a release in early 2016, effects work depending.
