Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg on David Fincher's The Social Network: "they just kind of made up a bunch of stuff"

A box office hit, and a film that was pipped to the Oscars by The King's Speech in the end (although Aaron Sorkin's screenplay got a gong), David Fincher's movie ofThe Social Network nonetheless proved to be popular with lots and lots of people.

Well, except the one person who it was actually about.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has given a Q&A at his firm's headquarters, and has said that the people behind the film "made up a bunch of stuff.""I haven't spent a lot of time thinking about that movie in a while. I kind of blocked that one out," he told the crowd.

So what was the problem?

"I think the reality is that writing code and then building a product and building a company is not a glamorous enough thing to make a movie about, so you can imagine that a lot of this stuff they had to embellish or make up," Zuckerberg argued. "They went out of their way in the movie to try to get some interesting details correct like the design of the office, but on the overarching plot - they just kind of made up a bunch of stuff that I found kind of hurtful."

Zuckerberg revealed that he did meet the man who played him on the screen, Jesse Eisenberg. But he did add that "there were pretty glaring things that were just made up about the movie that made it pretty hard to take seriously."
