Watch the first behind-the-scenes clip of Avengers: Age of Ultron, featuring Joss Whedon and Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch.
It’s short, but much like the heavily featured Quicksilver, it aims to make a quick impact.
In our first official behind the scenes footage from the set of Avengers: Age of Ultron, fans are treated to Joss Whedon explaining in 31 seconds why his follow-up to 2012’s box office phenomenon The Avengers will offer something new. But most intriguingly is what he, or rather Marvel Studios, chose to focus our first featurette Avengers: Age of Ultron footage on.
“There are other aspects of [the Marvel universe] that we’ve never seen before,” Whedon says. “Like Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, her manipulation of objects, and his super seed are not things we’ve seen in the Marvel universe.”
And indeed there are several new images of Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver.
Of course, we actually have seen Quicksilver and his super speed in a Marvel universe, if not that of Marvel Studios. Fox and those other Marvel movies, i.e. the X-Men franchise, just fabulously introduced mainstream audiences to Quicksilver when he was played with scene-stealing verve by Evan Peters in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
It could be argued that we’re seeing too much in this, but given all the recent give-and-take between Marvel and Fox, including Marvel’s ascension path for The Inhumans, this probably isn’t coincidental.
The video is from a full clip available on the Blu-ray of Guardians of the Galaxy, which goes on sale tomorrow.
Avengers: Age of Ultron, meanwhile, will follow Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and the rest of the returning superheroes when they have to go into battle with the villainous and robotic Ultron (James Spader). That film opens on May 1, 2015.
