Check out the first set picture from SPECTRE, which features a familiar face that James Bond 007 must stare down...
There’s a real continuity to the Daniel Craig James Bond movies, isn’t there?
Obviously, Quantum of Solace was a direct sequel to Casino Royale (for better or worse), yet the franchise in small and significant ways has a running narrative thread going throughout Craig’s 007 tenure not seen since at least Sean Connery. And that trend is continuing in slyly amusing way for the first image from SPECTRE, aka Bond 24.
While we already know that the dastardly Mr. White of Quantum, who appeared in the first two Craig Bond movies, will be returning for SPECTRE, an unexpectedly familiar face is revealed in the first official image from the movie’s production…no it’s not Dame Judi Dench’s M back from the dead…but her returning spirit.
That gruff Union Jack bulldog (blessedly not out of date for his sake after this summer’s Scottish vote of independence), is dutifully watchful on 007’s desk, ready to remind him of his mission.
For those that forgot at the end of Skyfall, Mr. Bond received a memento from the “mum” he failed to save at the hands of albino Javier Bardem. When Eve Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) hands Bond the peculiar inheritance, she suggests, “Maybe it was her way of telling you to take a desk job?”
“Just the opposite,” he smirks. Indeed, that bulldog appears ready to remind 007 of this truism for some time to come.
SPECTREalso stars Monica Bellucci, Léa Seydoux, Christoph Waltz, Ben Whishaw, and Ralph Fiennes as M. Sam Mendes returns to direct with a screenplay by John Logan, and Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. It's in theaters November 6, 2015.
