The story is in place for Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 confirms James Gunn, as he chats about the upcoming Marvel sequel.
The biggest grossing film of the year at the American box office in 2014? That'd be Guardians Of The Galaxy. Few would have predicted that back in January, but it's the movie that's cemented - as if it needed cementing - Marvel Studios' position as the most potent producer of successful, well-liked modern blockbuster films.
It was a triumph and a half too for writer and director James Gunn, who's currently working on getting Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 together. And in a new interview with Comic Book Resources, Gunn has confirmed that "the whole story is written" for the new film, admitting that "the story point for me, in a lot of ways, the most difficult thing... but I feel like it's pretty strong".
When questioned as to whether he's going to be undertaking as much world building in Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, Gunn said "no", adding that "I think there's a combination of some new world-building, combined with getting to know the world we already know a little bit better, just taking a closer look at everything to get to know things a little bit more intimately as opposed to seeing in very broad terms what some of these cultures are - like, getting to know them very up close and personal."
And one last thing: where does Gunn sit in the broader planning for the Marvel cosmic universe? Good question. "I haven't decided yet to be completely frank with you," he admitted. "I mean, I obviously love the Guardians, the Marvel cosmic universe. It means a lot to me. And there are other things out there as well. So I'm trying to figure that all out right now".
