The King Kong origin movie, Skull Island gets a rather obvious new title, and has moved away from the Doctor Strange release date.
The movie formerly known as Skull Island doesn't want anything to do with Marvel's Doctor Strange, it would seem. Universal Pictures have just announced that they're moving the film, now known as Kong: Skull Island has moved from November 4th, 2016 to March 10th, 2017. The new title should leave little doubt who this movie is about, while the new release date furthers the blurring of the boundaries between summer blockbuster season and the rest of the calendar.
Here's the official synopsis:
KONG: SKULL ISLAND will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary’s story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline.
Kong: Skull Island stars Tom Hiddleston, and will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Robert (The Kings of Summer) from a screenplay by John Gatins (Flight) and Max Borenstein (Godzilla). Universal also revealed that their "Untitled Great Wall Project" from House of Flying Daggers director Zhang Yimou is aiming for a December 2016 release date in China.
