Don't forget that there's a new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie in very active development. We have the latest on it...
The screenplay for the new Masters of the Universe movie is complete. Jeff Wadlow, the director of Kick-Ass 2 and an upcoming X-Force movie for 20th Century Fox, turned in a draft dated December 24th, 2014. That's about thirty years to the day that many '80s kids were losing their minds hoping to get a Wind Raider or Castle Grayskull under their tree the next day. Anyway, it's January, so it's time to cool it with the Christmas references.
The news comes from DeVon Franklin, the SVP of production for Columbia, who tweeted out an image of the title page on January 1st.

No word on who might direct Masters of the Universe. Jon M. Chu was once set for the chair, but departed for another toy-centric project, Jem and the Holograms. It's possible that Wadlow could end up directing, and there's also been some chatter about Mike Cahill (I Origins) for the job. As ridiculous as this might sound, I rather hope that the new Masters of the Universe movie takes a somewhat serious approach to the source material. Justin Marks' now discarded Grayskull: The Masters of the Universe script was a fairly logical reimagining of the He-Man mythology, and done properly, with the right amount of world-building, the realm of Eternia could do well as a franchise. They just have to get around some of those names...
Thanks to ScreenCrushfor putting us on to this one.
Mike Cecchini never owned Castle Grayskull but isn't bitter about it. Follow him on Twitter.
