Benedict Cumberbatch doesn't think the Doctor Strange movie is risky. He also hints a little more about what's next for Sherlock.

It feels like it took ages for us to even get actual confirmation that Benedict Cumberbatch had been cast as Stephen Strange in Marvel's Doctor Strange movie. Since then, chatter has been fairly quiet, probably since Marvel's PR machine is busy with Agent Carter, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, and Daredevilat the moment. Benedict Cumberbatch finally has a few words on the subject, though.

Doctor Strange, like 2014's smash Guardians of the Galaxy, isn't one of Marvel's more well-known properties. What's more, Doctor Strange himself isn't exactly a traditional, hunky supehero type. None of that bothers Mr. Cumberbatch, though:

"I don’t think it’s a risk because of Marvel. Marvel is a stable of bringing out ordinary comic characters and turning them into screen-like gods. It’s very different, it’s an Astral Plane. There’s a huge new element to this Marvel universe that’s going to be employed in building this story and this character. But you know, I’m really excited about it, about working with Scott [Derrickson] whose imagination is endless, and all the boys and girls at Marvel who know what they’re doing."

We don't doubt that. Nice of him to drop the "astral plane" in there, too. Doctor Strange starts production soon, as it has a November 4th, 2016 release date to meet. But there are a few other things Mr. Cumberbatch needs to get to:

"I’ve got a few things to get under my belt first. I’ve got to do that little stage production of “Hamlet” in the summer and the Christmas special of “Sherlock,” which we start shooting in about three days’ time – Whoops! Yeah, that’s there."

This isn't the first time we've heard the word "Christmas" mentioned in connection with this year's Sherlockspecial. Martin Freeman said as much, but so far, the BBC have avoided calling it that in any of their official statements. After the Sherlock Christmas Special we'll get three episodes of Sherlockseason four. Probably not until after Mr. Cumberbatch has finished shooting Doctor Strange, though.
