Wondering who's going to play Major Kusanagi in the upcoming Ghost in the Shell live-action film? We have an idea...
Scarlett Johansson, who at once makes the boys swoon and also run for their lives, will star in Dreamworks' upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic Japanese manga Ghost in the Shell, according to Variety. In case you haven't been keeping up with Johansson's resume, she's made the transition from serious dramas and rom coms to action hero.
She plays the awesome Black Widow in recent Marvel films and just recently played an all-powerful blonde chick with guns in Lucy. Basically, she kicks ass.
That's why she's so perfect for the role of Major Kusanagi in the upcoming Ghost in the Shell film. Although it hasn't been officially stated that she's playing Kusanagi specifically, we have little doubt that's the role she's signed up for.
Rupert Sanders, who directed the very successful Snow White & the Huntsman, will helm Ghost in the Shell. No release date has been set as of yet.
If you haven't heard of Ghost in the Shell, I suggest you check out the 1995 science fiction film that's all cyberpunk sci-fi action. It's quite good. Or you could read the original manga by Masamune Shirow, which is comprised of three big books. There's also the TV series Stand Alone Complex, which covers different ground than the films. The only thing I'd recommend staying away from is the recent OVA series Arise.
To tell you anything about the plot would be spoiling a lot of the really good stuff in these pages and films. We just suggest you check it out!
Also, there's this crazy haunting intro song for the first film:
