The plan is still to the Wicked movie in cinemas for 2016, producer Marc Platt admits. But "it's not set in stone."
NewsProducer Marc Platt has been in London to chat about the British release of Into The Woods, which lands in UK cinemas tomorrow. And while he's been there, he's been asked about another project he's overseeing, the screen adaptation of the hit stage musical, Wicked.
Platt confirmed that Winnie Holzman is currently working on a screenplay for the film, which Stephen Daldry is still in line to direct. And when asked about reports of a 2016 release date for the film, he confirmed that was the aim, adding "but it's not set in stone."
"The process of developing that movie has begun, we're working on it, and whether it makes 2016 or not, I'm not so sure."
He added that "we’re not going to shoot a release date is what I’m saying. It’s in the works, it’s not in a rush," noting that it took some 27 years to get Into The Woods to the big screen.
