New Trailer for David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars

Julianne Moore has so much awards recognition for Still Alice and new fan adoration for The Hunger Games that it’s sometimes easy to forget she has also been making the rounds in recent months for another project with offbeat auteur David Cronenberg: Maps to the Stars.

As the darkest comedy imaginable, the new film veers between laughs and sheer horror as Moore joins an ensemble that also includes Mia Wasikowska, John Cusack, Robert Pattinson, Olivia Williams, and more.

In the film, Moore plays a fading movie star who is the daughter of a beloved Golden Age Hollywood actress (Sarah Gadon) that died tragically young—and may have abused her before her fiery death. Perhaps that is why she takes a new assistant who is also the victim of third-degree burns (Wasikowska); however, the young woman has her own warped family history that puts her on a collision course with Cusack and his child-star son (Evan Bird).

It’s an acidic attempt to takedown the Hollywood industry from the inside, and it has been making the rounds at Cannes, the Toronto International Film Festival, and the New York Film Festival. I was able to see it for myself at the NYFF, and you can read my Maps to the Stars review here.
