Russell T Davies would love to write a Doctor Who movie - and that it "should be in cinemas immediately!"
NewsStarting this Thursday is Russell T Davies' latest venture, the interlinked projects Cucumber, Banana and Tofu. We've now seen the first episode of each, and it's very much worth making arrangements to make sure you don't miss them.
Davies has been promoting the shows over the past couple of weeks, and on Saturday, he appeared on Graham Norton's Radio 2 program as part of that. And while on the show, he was asked about a Doctor Who film.
"I think it should be in cinemas immediately", Davies replied. "It would be glorious. Imagine queueing up at the cinema to go and see a Doctor Who film".
So would he be interested in writing it? "Yes please! If we could get the lawyers and contracts flying now. You know, I would do that because I think there's a big leap to be made."
Of course, that's a long way from there actually being a Doctor Who film, and as far as we know, there are no current plans (and if there were, you'd imagine that it'd be a project Steven Moffat oversaw). A few years ago, Harry Potter director David Yates caused a mild stir (ahem) when he said he was planning a Who film. But nothing came of it, and Yates is now committed to the upcoming Harry Potter spinoffs.
We wait and see, then. But don't hold your breath. Or blink. Or any of that stuff...
