Nicolas Cage will be running around Pakistan and Afghanistan with a sword, looking for Bin Laden, in the new comedy Army of One.
NewsNicolas Cage is going to be running around Pakistan and Afghanistan with a sword while on the hunt for Osama bin Laden.
Yes, this sounds like the set-up to a joke—or a description of a probable hobby for Cage, pre or post-Abbottabad—but it’s also the premise of a new film, Army of One.
In a project that will be directed by Larry Charles of Borat and Bruno, this apparently very similar “improvised” comedy will star Cage as a man who thought he’d stealthily find Bin Laden before Seal Team 6 did in 2011.
The satirical comedy, which will be produced by Endgame Entertainment and Conde Nast Entertainment, with The Weinstein Company providing North American distribution, is loosely based on the life of Gary Faulkner, a Colorado construction worker who traveled repeatedly to Pakistan and Afghanistan to personally hunt down the al-Qaeda leader. He first came to prominence in a GQ magazine article written by Chris Heath.
Promised to be only semi-scripted by Scott Rothman and Rajiv Joseph, Army of One is hoping to unleash the Cage in all his unscripted glory to the same hopeful effect Charles achieved with Sacha Baron Cohen in Borat. Hopefully, it will be closer to that than The Dictator…
