Edgar Wright is going to be lending his pen to the script Dodge and Twist, a steam-punk follow-up to Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist.
NewsSince leaving Marvel to shrink men all on their own, Edgar Wright has had a busy time lining up new projects. For example, he is already set to direct a car chase musical (you read that correctly) named Baby Driver and he also is adapting YA novel Grasshopper Jungle to the big screen.
However, Wright is also making time to polish up on his Charles Dickens—by writing a sequel to Oliver Twist.
FilmDivider has learned that the writer-director behind Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World will be lending his pen Dodge and Twist, a steam-punk decades-later follow up on the Dickens classic.
With no plans to direct the feature, Wright is nonetheless polishing up a story that was first hatched by Ahmet Zappa (The Odd Life of Timothy Green). Set 20 years after the end of Dickens book, Oliver Twist is now a police officer trying to prevent his one-time best friend Artful Dodger from stealing the Crown Jewels. Other Dickens characters are also expected to appear in the novel—as well as a teenage Queen Victoria.
If only they could get Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in those roles…
