They're coming to get you, Barbara. George A. Romero's son is making a Night of the Living Dead prequel.
NewsCameron Romero, son of zombie grand master George A. Romero, is making a prequel to 1968's Night of the Living Dead called "Origins." The original film, of course, spawned several of the greatest zombie/social commentary films of all-time. Films such as Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead have left their mark on the social consciousness. There are currently six films in the series. The latest is 2009's Survival of the Dead.
The new film will be directed by Romero and written by Romero, Darrin Reed and Bryce C. Campbell. Radar’s Ted Field will produce with Aldo LaPietra, Campbell, Reed, and Romero. Mike Weber and Thomas van Dell are executive producing.
The film is set during the Cold War. That obviously means that there all kinds of funky experiments going on behind the scenes that eventually trigger the zombie apocalypse.
“‘Origins’ is a great opportunity for me to continue the family tradition of creating haunting and ever-evolving depictions of the undead, and a great opportunity for Romero fans to see a story of zombie inception never portrayed before,” Romero said.
Make your father proud, Cameron.
