Selma director Ava DuVernay is going to write, direct, and produce a Hurricane Katrina drama and murder mystery with David Oyelowo aboard.
NewsDespite being snubbed by the Oscars for her impressive work at adapting Martin Luther King Jr.’s life into the kinetic film Selma, Ava DuVernay doesn’t appear to be hurting much for work.
Participant Media announced today that DuVernay will be writing, directing, and producing a new film that is poised to tell a “sweeping love story” in the backdrop of Hurricane Katrina, complete with a complex murder mystery. Further David Oyelowo, who played Dr. King in Selma, is in talks to produce and star in the picture.
“I’m thrilled to reunite with my Participant family on this project and fortunate to work again with the always exquisite David Oyelowo,” DuVernay said in a statement. “The story we’re interested in will explore the complexities of intimate relationships within times of chaos while also examining the chaos itself. I’m looking forward to the journey.”
It should be an interesting one with such a charged and tragic backdrop in use.
