Jason Momoa had a little to say about how little he's allowed to say about playing Aquaman in the Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
NewsAfter roughly a year of having to lie to the public (in his defense, he was under strict orders) about his role as Aquaman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Jason Momoa finally can relax a little. Not too much, though.
Mr. Momoa spoke a little about his Aquaman experience at a panel at this year's Sundance Film Festival. He sounds impressed with Zack Snyder's plan for the DC Cinematic Universe describing how his "jaw kinda dropped," when he met with him. "My jaw doesn't drop," he clarified. "What he has planned for the DC world and definitely for Aquaman is something that, you know – I think I was brought on for a certain reason and they got some really cool plans for him. I’m really excited for everyone to see it."
He also addressed the invitation he gave to some folks that they could assault him if he was lying about his non-involvement with the movie. "I wasn’t supposed to say anything until 2016. So I told a bunch of people that they could punch me in the face if I was on it, so I’m going to get hit a couple times. But they finally released it. I was supposed to keep it a secret for 3 years." Call me crazy, but I wouldn't recommend anybody try and collect on that one.
As for the matter of Aquaman's appearance...
Well, just going off what you’ve seen so far...I don’t think he is going to be blonde or white. I can’t really tell you because I haven’t shot it yet. I hate to disappoint. But um, you know, I’m a little different than what those others… I hope you watch it with an open heart.
Believe me, Aquaman has much bigger hurdles to clear than whether or not the actor playing him is blonde.
Now, here's where I'm a little confused. It's that "I haven't shot it yet," part. Is he just referring to the Aquamansolo movie or Justice League Part One? Principal photography on Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justicewrapped in December, and there were early reports that the extended production time on that movie was to allow a little work to begin on the first Justice League film, too. Unless, as we suspect, any hero not named Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman has a very minor part in the film, and will only show up at the very end to expand the universe.
The Aquaman movie currently has two scripts in development, and director names are starting to surface. It's scheduled for release on July 27th, 2018. We'll meet Aquaman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25th, 2016, though, followed by Justice League Part Oneon November 17th, 2017. You can read all about the Complete DC Comics Superhero Movie Calendarright here.
