It’s a horrifying turn of events for the once-untouchable Paranormal Activity franchise.
Paramount Pictures has shuffled its slate of upcoming horror movies, and the big news is that Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension has been pushed back again, bouncing from a March 13, 2015 release date to October 23, 2015. That’s ironic, given that this franchise was once unstoppable at the box office at that time of year and that the film was originally scheduled for October 25, 2013.
But with diminishing returns on both 2012’s Paranormal Activity 4 and last year’s Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, Paramount is apparently not feeling very badly about delaying the Gregory Plotkin-directed picture for almost exactly two years. Still, it’s kind of nice that the series has found itself back in the Halloween release window where it all started, but whether it can work its dark magic on moviegoers again remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, the Friday the 13th reboot/remake/whatever has also been removed from its second arrival date, November 13, 2015 (it was originally scheduled for the same date that The Ghost Dimension was just knocked out of) and placed in the rather odd summer slot of May 13. 2016. Taking its place in the November 13 space will be Rings, the reboot of The Ring that recently got the green light.
