Paul Feig's new all-female Ghostbusters movie is locking up its team. UPDATED with character details and...Bill Murray?
NewsGet ready, because the new Ghostbusters movie is getting set. Director Paul Feig is assembling his cast of actresses to take on the Ghostbusters banner in the upcoming reboot. Here's who they've got.
Melissa McCarthy, who worked with Feig on Bridesmaids seems to be already locked in, it would seem. Sony is working on bringing in Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon, as well. That's a lot of Saturday Night Live in the cast, and there was plenty of SNL in the original film's DNA, as well.
While Variety describes negotiations with Wiig, Jones, and McKinnon are described as "early," Paul Feig seems pretty confident that this is his team, tweeting out what appears to be a confirmation:

UPDATE: Details about the characters these ladies are playing are now out there, and...we might get to see Bill Murray in this flick, after all!
Erin Gabler and Abby Bergman are "former colleagues" who "co-wrote a book about the paranormal together, then went in different directions." Ms. Gabler works for Columbia University, which is, of course, a callback to the original film. Abby is the true believe in the world of ghosts, and she has a partner named "Jillian." Then there's Patty, "an MTA subway ticket employee who stumbles across the main ghost in the film."
Reportedly the villain of the film is a "creepy mechanical genius," and they're trying to get Peter Dinklage for the part. Martin Heiss is a "professional supernatural debunker," and Feig is trying to woo Bill Murray for that role. This certainly sounds just familiar enough to earn the Ghostbusters name, but it isn't a total homage.
It looks like Ghostbusters will start shooting over the summer in New York City.
Thanks to HitFix for those plot and character details!
