Spaceballs 2: The Search for Money is something that Mel Brooks just won't rule out. But don't get your hopes up, either.
NewsWith Star Wars: The Force Awakens looming at the end of 2015, and the fact that we're going to get a Star Wars movie a year for at least the next six years, it's inevitable that we're going to get a cinematic send-up of some kind. So if it's gonna happen, it may as well follow in the footsteps of the best of the space opera parodies. That's right, Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.
Admittedly, there isn't much here right now. Just some idle chatter from the great Mel Brooks over on Adam Carrola's podcast:
"I'm thinking now, if I did a movie that came out right after Star Wars comes out — maybe a couple of months later — I'd have a big weekend, you know? No matter what, even if it fell on its ass and didn't get its money back…but that first weekend, the anticipation of seeing Spaceballs 2, would…I still have Daphne Zuniga and I still have Rick Moranis if he'd do it, and I've still got me."
This is just chatter, of course. Mr. Brooks doesn't sound like he's in any hurry, and Rick Moranis is effectively retired from acting. Brooks did once say he wouldn't even consider doing it without him. And there is a certain tenor of Max Bialystock to his idea. Even if the movie stinks, he's still planning to make a killing that openeing weekend? It sounds like however this sequel ends up, Mel and Gene Wilder will be taking their $2 million and flying down to Rio.
But if it did happen we know two things for sure: First of all, that subtitle would be right on target. But second of all, it sounds a hell of a lot more interesting than the bizarre, sci-fi animated remake of Blazing Saddles apparently in development with Open Road pictures. No, for real.Blazing Samurai is a thing with an April 14th, 2017 release date and an official plot synopsis:
The comedy centers on a scrappy young dog named Hank who fights to save the town of Kakamucho from becoming the litter box of a nefarious feline warlord, transforming society and himself on his quest to become a true samurai.
Yeah. Let that sink in for a minute.
I tip my helmet to SplitSiderfor showing me the Spaceballs 2 news.
