The Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, and Rose Byrne comedy hit of 2014 has a sequel called (what else?) Neighbors 2 heading to 2016.
NewsIf you were like us, then you found last May’s Neighbors a surprisingly raunchy delight that relied just as much on Rose Byrne as it did Seth Rogen and Zac Efron for the laughs. As one of the surprise hits of summer 2014, it beat out The Amazing Spider-Man 2 during the superhero sequel’s second weekend, and placed itself on a path to where it will have a sequel itself. Enter Neighbors 2, which has been scheduled to open on May 13, 2016.
Universal Pictures announced this afternoon that Neighbors 2 will be opening in the same weekend frame in 2016 as the raunchy, R-rated original. Rogen, Efron, and Byrne are already set to return, along with director Nicholas Stoller who helmed the first picture. Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver will produce under Point Grey Pictures. Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien are also to reprise writing duties.
The original film grossed $269 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing original comedy of 2014.
