Watch the new trailer for a comedy-drama about Adam Sandler being able to magically become other people in The Cobbler.

Trailer

Adam Sandler has taken a beating as of late in the press after several (or more) dubious star vehicle choices that didn’t pan out. However, if you watched Saturday Night Live’s 40th anniversary special this past weekend, you know some of that appealing charm that first made him a star remains, whether it is as Opera Man or as a Digital Short songwriter.

That certainly appears to be on the mind of respected indie filmmaker Tom McCarthy, the director behind the cult classics Station Agent (2003) and The Visitor (2007), who has cast Sandler in his new upcoming comedy-drama, The Cobbler. Indeed, judging from the trailer, Sandler still has some of that charm, which hopefully will be finally channeled into a worthwhile movie after years of multiplex filler.

In The Cobbler, Sandler plays Max Simkin, a shoe repairman who works in the same cramped Manhattan shop that his family has owned for generations. Yet miraculously, after growing bored with the minutia of everyday life, Max discovers his family has the magical ability to literally step into the shoes of their customers, becoming these people whenever the shoes are on. To paraphrase Atticus Finch, you never really know somebody until you walk around in their shoes for a while.

The Cobbler also stars Steve Buscemi, Dustin Hoffman, Method Man, Melonie Diaz, and Yul Vazquez. The film opens on March 13, 2015.
