The Deadpool movie has found its female lead, and it's Firefly's Morena Baccarin.
NewsOther than Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, the character with the most screen time in the Deadpoolmovie is Vanessa Carlyle, Wade Wilson's on again/off again girlfriend. In the comics, she's a shape-shifting mutant known as Copycat, but, at least in the draft I read of the screenplay, Ms. Carlyle doesn't have any mutant abilities on display.
That's not important, though. What's important is that Fox has decided that Morena Baccarin is the lady for the role.
Yesterday, a bunch of casting breakdowns surfaced, including this one for the character that is pretty much definitely Vanessa Carlyle:
Smart, tough, beautiful but a little bit broken. Nothing has ever been easy for her and she’s developed a thick skin and cynical outlook. But she’s not a victim—she may not have a great life but she’s holding it together and does what she needs to get by. She’s got a great sense of humor but it leans heavily towards irony and sarcasm.
We have a complete guide to the characters of the Deadpool movie right here.
Ms. Baccarin, who can currently can be seen on Gotham, won the role from a list of actresses that included Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black), Crystal Reed (Teen Wolf), Rebecca Rittenhouse (Red Band Society), Sarah Greene (Vikings), and Jessica de Gouw (who played the Huntress on Arrowand recently was considered for the title role in AKA Jessica Jones).
Deadpoolstars Ryan Reynolds (duh), and it's directed by Tim Miller. It has a script from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland). It opens on February 12th, 2016.
