Martin Scorsese to direct Jamie Foxx as Mike Tyson in new biopic.
NewsMartin Scorsese is returning to the ring, according to Jamie Foxx. The Raging Bulldirector will be taking on another real-life boxing legend, Mike Tyson. This writer had the privilege of seeing Tyson fight, not long after the Olympics, with my friend, the late lightweight champ of several states and Mexico, Gino Perez. I couldn’t believe how someone as big as Tyson could be as fast as Tyson.
Foxx told Power 105’s The Breakfast Club that Martin Scorsese will direct him as Mike Tyson for an upcoming biopic coming out of Paramount.
“I just went in with Paramount with Mike Tyson,” Foxx told the Breakfast Club. “So I’m going to do the Mike Tyson story. Listen, to be in the same room pitching Mike Tyson to Paramount, Mike Tyson is on one side, I’m on the other side and doing Mike Tyson at the same time. And Martin Scorsese at the helm. This will be the first boxing movie that Martin Scorsese has done since Raging Bull.”
The screenplay was written by Boardwalk Empire’s Terence Winter, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter who wrote Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street.
Tyson wrote a and performed a one-man show called Undisputed Truth. The one man show was directed by Spike Lee and shown on HBO. Tyson currently lends his voice to The Mike Tyson Mysteries on Adult Swim.
Tyson was played by Michael Jai White in the 1995 HBO biopic Tyson.
