For the first time in nearly 40 years, John Williams isn't scoring a Star Wars movie, as Alexandre Desplat is working on Rogue One.
NewsIn news that is certain to cause much disturbance in the force, it has been revealed who will be scoring the upcoming 2016 Star Wars film, Star Wars: Rogue One…and it isn’t John Williams.
For the first time in eight films over nearly 40 years, there will be a Star Wars picture guided musically by another composer, and it at least appears to be branching off with a strong candidate. Alexandre Desplat, who just won an Oscar last month for his stately work in The Grand Budapest Hotel, has been tapped to write the music for Star Wars: Rogue One.
The news increases the standalone status of next year’s trip to a galaxy far, far away, and it makes clear sense as Rogue One director Gareth Edwards has worked with Desplat before on last year’s Godzilla. The French composer has also had an already eclectic career in Hollywood, which includes Oscar nominations for The King’s Speech, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Argo. Desplat has also written the scores to Moonrise Kingdom and Zero Dark Thirty.
Star Wars: Rogue One opens on December 16, 2016, but you can find out everything to know about it right here.
