It certainly appears to be an idea they’re pushing forward with this latest installment of the fast cars and fast explosions series, The Transporter: Refueled. A quasi-reboot, but mostly just a sequel with a new face, The Transporter: Refueled will try to light a fire without Jason Statham delivering the devastating haymakers and heavy-pedal adrenaline. Rather, it’s time to meet Ed Skrein of Game of Thrones (if ever so briefly) as the new Transporter.
In The Transporter: Refueled, Frank is hired by a cunning femme fatale named Anna (Loan Chabanol) and her three sidekicks for a deceptively simple job until he discovers that he has been played in a scheme that has resulted in his father (Ray Stevenson) being kidnapped. With new blackmailers embroiling Frank into a world of Russian sex trafficking, Frank will be fueled by revenge as he seeks to rescue his father and break the chain of underworld command.
Since this is what Skrein left Game of Thrones for after only half-a-season, I hope for his sake that it is fiery fun. Because at the moment, I imagine some of Den of Geek editors are simply wistfully yearning for the days of Jason Statham behind the wheel…
