The Brothers Grimm Becomes a TV Show

And the move of film properties to television continues, but for Ehren Kruger, it might feel like a fairy tale.

Similar to Syfy turning 12 Monkeys into a TV series, another (less beloved) Terry Gilliam film is about to make the jump to the small screen, albeit this time with a premise that is much easier to serialize. As announced by Miramax Thursday, The Brothers Grimm is about to make the leap to the small screen.

The studio, which recently partnered with The Weinstein Company, is increasingly looking at their extensive film library for big and small screen expansion, and the Gilliam 2005 film starring Matt Damon and Heath Ledger makes for a strange but obvious choice in hindsight. The film starred the two actors at the height of their popularity as the famed Brothers Grimm, who apparently were also once charlatan monster hunters until they get roped into the clutches of a real evil witch queen (Monica Bellucci), as well as humorous Napoleonic politics. The latter of which is vintage Gilliam, but the film itself was written by Ehren Kruger who also worked on The Ring remakes, Scream 3, and the last two Transformers sequels. Thus, the Kruger connection makes business sense when it comes to building a potential comedy-horror aesthetic around this 19^th century period procedural storyline.

Daniel Pipski, the vice president of television at Miramax, said, “We reached out to Ehren Kruger and producing partner Daniel Bobker to see if they had any interest in making The Brothers Grimm movie into a TV show, and the pitch Ehren came back with blew us away. We’re thrilled to be working with a writer of his caliber.”
