Check out the newest trailer for Melissa McCarthy in Spy, a new action comedy from the director of the Ghostbusters reboot.
TrailerThe spy parody genre came back in with a vengeance in 2015, didn’t it? Last month, we received the wonderfully bonkers Kingsman: The Secret Service, and at the end of the summer we’re also getting a slick Guy Ritchie helmed redo of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. And of course we have actual “serious” spy fare later this year like new Mission: Impossible and James Bond pictures too. But before all of the latter, there is one more comedy that might prove the most appealing to a wide audience: Melissa McCarthy as a spy. Not only a spy, but literally the Spy.
From Paul Feig, the director of Bridesmaids and the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot, Spy follows Susan Cooper (McCarthy), an unassuming CIA analyst and unsung hero for the Company’s most successful missions. However, when her partner (Jude Law) falls off the grid and the agency’s top spy (Jason Statham) is compromised, Susan gets her chance to be the hero by going undercover to infiltrate the syndicate of a deadly arms dealer (Rose Byrne) and save the world.
The spy comedy also stars Bobby Cannavale and Allison Janney. It opens June 5, 2015.
