It's official: Deadpool will be rated R! It's an April First surprise given to us by Ryan Reynolds in an enjoyably bonkers fashion.
News***UPDATE: Ryan Reynolds re-confirms an R-rating for Deadpool and sex scenes (of a kind) in new Tweet below the video.
Today is April Fool’s Day, and by far the best joke is the one that Ryan Reynolds pulled on the fans resigned to a PG-13 rating for Deadpool. Even after 20th Century Fox enjoyed a hard-R February hit with this year’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, all signs seemed to point toward the Merc with a Mouth making his true big screen debut on a PG-13 leash—a restraint that Reynolds and JoBlo both appeared to lament today, via tweets and phony news items.
However, it was all a long con worthy of an April First at Bay Side High—which is apparently where Deadpool’s mind is at in the new video!
Below is a faux interview that Reynolds debuted with JoBlo where the actor appears to be reluctantly giving the PR spin on a PG-13 Deadpool…until things go a little screwy. It should have been a dead giveaway something was off when it begins as an Extra interview with Mario Lopez. There is a very good reason for this as Reynolds first throws shade at X-Men Origins: Wolverine, then confirms Deadpool’s R rating with an f-bomb, and finally has a message that every child of the ‘90s (and thus Saved by the Bell fan) can appreciate…
